Sansa Connect - a WiFi-enabled iPod alternative January 18, 2007
Finally a mobile music player that really utilizes WiFi. Unlike the Zune, the SanDisk Sansa Connect portable audio player can download music via its WiFi connection and also stream internet radio! It can do this thanks to Zings software and service platform and a partnership with FON whereby all Foneros can access the Zing platform via any FON hotspot.
The Sansa Connect features a 2.2" TFT color display, 4GB on board plus microSD card slot, WiFi of course and USB 2.0. The Sansa Connect is 2.05 in. wide x 3.58 in. long x 0.63 in. high and will be available in March for around $250.

New Gadget aggregator (off topic, sort of) December 19, 2006
The team behind Fontastic.org has just launched a new baby. It's not a whole new thing but we just wanted to come up with something that helps us keeping track with our beloved Gadget blogs and sites. GadgetGlance.com does precisely this and we gonna add on features to it whenever we have time and think of something extremely useful. Thanks very much to those many nice Web 2.0 APIs and developments which helped making this possible. To have at least some sort of connection to Fontastic.org we might want to point out that there is a very fast and lean mobile version available (optimized for Treo 650, that's what I use mostly).

Samsung to present new WiFi phone October 23, 2006
WiFi phones are getting more and more popular and this one proofs how popular WiFi gets as opposed to 3G. The new Samsung EW-700 only features WiFi radio but packs in quite a bit of features: VoIP telephony, web browser, 2 MP camera, messenger, camcorder, media player and Outlook sync. All applications run on a propriatary OS. The display seems to be really nice but I am not sure how much fun it is to chat without a QWERTY keyboard. See more pictures on Aving.net.

SMC finally launches new WiFi Skype phone September 26, 2006
Thanks to Gerhard over at fonblog.de we found one of the widely announced WiFi phones is now finally available (we reported earlier). Before we digg deeper into it, though, we must warn you: it is not yet available in the USA or Canada. However, as it has some US specific agency approval it is most likely to be launched here shortly. Maybe some other vendor has exclusivity for a period of time?
SMC is launching the WSKP100 in many markets in Europe, Africa and some western Asian countries. I have checked some German online stores listed on the Where to Buy section and they seem to be available within 24 hrs at €189.- (currently $240).
The features have been widely discussed before but here are some actual facts now, taken from their website. First and foremost the phone operates without a connection to a computer. It has 802.11b/g wireless connectivity and Quality of Service (QoS) to ensure stable quality. It connects to your computer via USB 1.1 to charge and update the firmware. Security-wise it supports both WPA and WPA2 (with pe-shared keys). You can even start using it without a Skype account and use the phone to sign-up.

Zune, the social media player September 15, 2006
Microsoft just launched their iPod killer, the Zune. While it doesn't have the looks and accessories collection (yet) it features WiFi and a very cool social feature: you can share songs with fellow Zuners and they can listen to it 3 times or 3 days and flag it to buy it via the Zune online shop. You can also share "homemade" music productions and images. Other than that the standard features are rather straight forward (30 GB harddrive, 3 inch QVGA display, FM radio).
